Proyecto34s (South Africa /Argentina). Multicultural project.

Plays from Africa and Latin America often do not travel beyond their borders, indeed many do not travel beyond their country or even city limits due to a lack of suitable platforms, financial constraints and of course, language differences.
Proyecto 34ºS showcases African and Latin-American drama selected through the Theatre in Translation / Teatro en Traducción (TT) project. This project recognises and rewards quality and originality whilst bridging the linguistic and cultural gap through means of translation, actively promoting the plays and providing new platforms for their exposure to a wider and more varied readership than ever before through both traditional printed and new online media.
Ultimately, the TT Project also aims to get the plays off the page and onto the stage – in new languages and in new places, with new casts - and new audiences watching, enjoying, absorbing, thinking…
Proyecto 34ºS believes that playwrights and their work deserve to be recognised, celebrated and shared, locally, nationally and internationally.
Proyecto 34ºS´ mission is to produce festivals, events and workshops with a focus on world-class contemporary performing arts from Africa and Latin America and which enable active artistic exchange and contact between the diverse peoples and cultures of these two continents. These activities aim to foster creative relationships and dialogue between artists and audiences, as well as artistic appreciation, social consciousness and cultural understanding.
Proyecto 34ºS´ long-term vision is to establish a biennial festival of African theatre in Latin America, continuing in the tradition of the Festival of South African Theatre that was presented in April 2009 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and to establish a counterpart festival of Latin-American theatre in Africa. In the short and medium-term, Proyecto 34ºS will produce other smaller arts events and projects.
